September 1st, 1862 - The Battle of Chantilly (Ox Hill)

Outcome: Inconclusive


In retreat following the defeat at Second Bull Run, Major General John Pope's Federal rear guard comprised of 1300 men was engaged by 800 pursuing Confederate troops under command of "Stonewall" Jackson. Despite heavy losses and an inconclusive battle, the Confederate advance toward Washington D. C. was halted. Overall, the Confederates lost around 9,000 soldiers in the Second Bull Run Campaign; the Federals lost 16,000.
