Conflict: American Civil War

Combatants: Confederates vs. Federals

Points of Interest:

  • The fog on Lookout Mountain was so thick that Hooker's troops had advanced to within a few yards of the Confederate lines before the belligerents were aware of one another.

  • The Battle of Lookout Mountain is also known as the "Battle Above the Clouds" due to the dense fog on the mountain that day.
